Silly, of course. If you already have convergence this close, there's nothing to fear from death. Continuity of consciousness was only ever an illusion anyways.

I think it's too early to say. Once we actually understand what algorithm consciousness is, the philosophical debate about whether the experience of consciousness is an illusion should be irrelevant, one way or the other.

I guess it'll help, at least. I think you underestimate the tenacity of the debate though.
