My only complaint is that it updates so rarely :(. I want more!!

It seems like an easy way to make the invasion succeed is just to soul kill everyone that stops it. It's not entirely clear to me what the limits on soul killing are, but given the number of people they've done it to, it doesn't seem to be all that costly (though granted, it's been a while since I read through this one, so maybe it was explicitly stated at some point and I missed it).

u/blazinghand [+7] Chaos Undivided*

Soulkilling seems pretty low-energy for Red, but it there are a number of clues that point towards Soulkill being actually "eject from the time loop".

  1. The Lich in the first runthrough notes that souls can't be destroyed, so he uses the soul blending spell between Zack and Zorian instead of using some kind of Soul Killing spell. It's possible Red Hood knows more than the Lich, but if I had to guess I'd say that the Lich is a better practitioner of soul magic since he's a soul entity. There are some other references to the immortality of souls throughout the series that make me think you can't destroy them. I think it's relatively safe to say that the soulkill doesn't actually kill souls.
  2. Red Hood doesn't use this on any threats except ones that he specifically believes to be time travelers. Since souls kinda exist outside of the time loop, it seems like a simple way to make the invasion a success would be to soulkill all the opposition. Red Hood seems reasonably bright (or at least reasonably willing to take advantage of the time loop) and he doesn't do this until the Aranea tell Zach that they are time travelers. I'm guessing Red Hood is planning to aid the invasion in the final runthrough outside the loop, and he wants as much information as possible to make the invasion a success. If Soulkill instead actually just kicks souls out of the loop, it would explain why Red Hood only used it once the Aranea are revealed (to him) to be time travelers. He won't lose important information by kicking them out of the loop, so he can still execute the invasion as well as possible.

There is another possibility. Red hood somehow binds the souls within his own soul or within some attached container.

As blazinghand said, 'soul kill' doesn't seem to be what is actually happening. Zack and Zorian's souls stay unreverted by the time loops, and similarly the Araneas' bodies now stay unreverted.

u/alexanderwales [+4] Time flies like an arrow*

It was my understanding that the bodies are reverted, but since they have no souls attached to them, they just die instantly. Is that incorrect?

u/ArisKatsaris [+1] Sidebar Contender*

I reread the chapter in question, and it seems you're right and I was wrong. The spiders are seen by Zorian as seemingly having dropped dead in the midst of ordinary tasks without sign of combat on their bodies.

Indeed, should mercanries really be your target over political figures in positions of power, why kill 1 soldier when you can kill the general

Sweet! Man, the title of this fic always reminds me of Assassin's Creed.

u/loonyphoenix [+9] *

I assumed the title is a reference to the proverb "Repetition is the mother of learning"

Oh, I never heard that one.

Welp, that's a good way to start my day. And the author intends to start on a two chapter a month schedule next, too! Anyway, I didn't notice anything particularly "juicy" this chapter, but it was a very enjoyable one nonetheless.

u/josephwdye [+3] I love you*

WOW, awesome!!! Where did zhe say that?

It's on the author's profile: here

My current goal is to start publishing two chapters per month. I am hoping to switch to this faster update schedule for the next chapter, but we'll see.
