u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+2] Roll the Dice on Fate*
Well I've gone and edited it now so you look like a crazy person :>
u/eaglejarl [+7] *
laugh Well, if you insist: Don't forget your serial commas or JFK and Stalin will show up.
u/Transfuturist [+2] Carthago delenda est.*
/u/eaglejarl, /u/FuguofAnotherWorld, /u/Velorien, /u/augsphere, is the gender and/or the name of the character up for vote?
u/eaglejarl [+3] *
Sure. Vote for anything you like. We reserve the right to adjudicate / veto, though.
u/Reasonableviking [+8] *
Would you Veto for instance, Charles Barkley of the Village Hidden in the Jam?

And Augsphere just stopped me from making an insensate rock with Ninjutsu through the character generation rules, this is a tragedy.
u/Transfuturist [+3] Carthago delenda est.*
This actually made me laugh, instead of breathing slightly stronger than normal. Two thumbs up.
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+1] Roll the Dice on Fate*
Sure thing.
u/krakonfour [+8] *
I'm in, whatever the cost, whatever I have to do.

The world doesn't run on math, Neo!

My SV forum account is Truthquark.

Looks like it'll be fun! I'll try to participate under the username -Caconym-. I've never done one of these before so I'm going to step back and let others do the character creation first.
u/eaglejarl [+2] *
Feel free to post something simple, like this: plan Caconym A close range fighter focused on speed instead of power.
You don't need to go crazy with the details.
u/Transfuturist [+2] Carthago delenda est.*
Doesn't it go like [X] A close range fighter focused on speed instead of power. I think you need the [X]. And
[X] plan Caconymis for people adding votes to Caconym's plan, not Caconym himself. The chargen rules are open to editing by anyone, so the owner should restrict it to suggestion only.
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+1] Roll the Dice on Fate*
It does indeed work like that. And the permissions have been fixed.

Can we talk a little bit about how the voting works? To me it seems like we can vote for as many alternatives as we want. The way to make sure something doesn't happen then is to vote for everything but what you want to exclude. I am also somewhat unsure what is meant by "earlier votes by a user is excluded". My assumption is that you only get one post to vote in. Which makes it a good strategy to go back and edit your voting-post later? It also seems to be the case that simple majority wins. How will you resolve cases that seem similar or have the potential to be combined? I assume a certain degree of consideration is required by the GMs when deciding winners. I am most interested in how you will resolve this in regards to stat-distribution. If a complete stat-distribution with fire-affinity gets 4 votes, but a simple vote for earth-affinity(only, no other details) gets 5 what happens? How will you mix and combine if points are insufficent for both? Say earth-attribute 4 by itself gets 5 votes, but the complete distribution, which only has fire-attribute 2, but no points leftover gets 4 votes, how will they be combined, if at all?
u/eaglejarl [+3] *
The only answer I can offer to any of this is "we'll use common sense and try to reflect our best understanding of what people want."

I am also somewhat unsure what is meant by "earlier votes by a user is excluded". My assumption is that you only get one post to vote in. Which makes it a good strategy to go back and edit your voting-post later? The voting bot looks back through all of the posts looking for things with an [x] in them. Then is takes the most recent by each person, counts and collates them. Simple majority does indeed win. In cases of a tie the GMs have a few options, such as waiting another half hour and re-counting, gauging the feeling of people in the thread or just picking the one that will make a better story. Fortunately votes are kept separate even if they have similar parts. So, you won't end up with a mangled mish-mash of a character made by slamming two other possible characters into each other. If, later on, you end up in a position where there are 7 people saying go right, and 10 saying go left split into 5 go left and smell the grass with 5 saying go left and kick a rock, it is unlikely that you will end up going right.

It's very simple. No one is going to game quests. As long as that it doesn't happen, it's perfectly fine to do what they do.
u/mordorisbad [+1] *
As it stands, everyone with the link to the google document has editing-privileges. I assume this shouldn't be the case?
u/IomKg [+1] *
Just wondering, what are the reasons this is not done here?
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+2] Roll the Dice on Fate*
Essentially the thread system on reddit would have made any arguments or disagreements expand fractally without end in sight.
u/IomKg [+1] *
Am I missing something or is the place its hosted on right now just a simple flat forum? I was under the impression that similar settings could be set up for threads in reddit as well.. was i wrong or am i missing something about the place its currently hosted? *Just so it doesn't sound like I am trying to convince you guys to move here, as these kinds of quests aren't really my thing, i am honestly interested in the reasons..
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+1] Roll the Dice on Fate*
Honestly, didn't remember there was the option on reddit. That said, SV would've still come out ahead because it has auto-tally while reddit has both up and down votes, which make for a far more complicated voting system.
u/IomKg [+1] *
Hmm so that voting system is better for quests.. Fair enough I suppose, thanks for the responses :)
u/eaglejarl [+1] *
There was a suggestion that reddit's threading structure would be less than ideal, and it was pointed out that other sites have integrated voting systems and dice rollers.
u/IomKg [+1] *
Aren't there dice roll bots in reddit? And isn't voting basically what is possible for every post here?
u/blazinghand [+1] Chaos Undivided*
One of the ways in which forums without upvote/downvote systems work is that it's really really easy to keep track of the order in which posts are made. This is very important for a quest or story like this one.
u/Riddle-Tom_Riddle [+1] *
This looks fun. I, unfortunately, am too damn tired to parse significantly new things, and am just about to go to bed. I'll join in the morning, if I remember.
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+2] Roll the Dice on Fate*
We'd be glad to have you on board.
u/Riddle-Tom_Riddle [+1] *
u/AmeteurOpinions [+1] Finally, everyone was working together.*
Hm. I know basically nothing about the Naruto universe except what I learned through Lighting Up The Dark, Time Braid, and The Waves Arisen. I do think it would be fun to participate, as a cowardly ninja who would rather be an unpowered civilian, to excuse my lack of knowledge. Is that plausible?
u/krakonfour [+2] *
What's happening right now is that a group of people are building one ninja together, then will vote on that character's actions.
u/FuguofAnotherWorld [+2] Roll the Dice on Fate*
The world is AU enough your canon knowledge would be mostly irrelevant anyway, so you're fine.
u/eaglejarl [+2] *
That's fine. Pretty much my entire knowledgebase comes from fanfic and the wiki, so if you've read LUTD, TB, and TWA you're probably fine. I haven't had the interest to read the manga. I tried the anime but it drove me so crazy / bored me so much that I stopped around the end of the Wave arc.
u/XxChronOblivionxX [+1] *
Welp, guess I'm joining in on this. Discussions should be interesting. Hopefully "Plan Stealth Assassin" ends up winning.
u/eaglejarl [+3] *
It did. In a landslide.
u/Transfuturist [+1] Carthago delenda est.*
Keep it on the down-low, but my last vote has some background-color elements. I'm trying to be sneaky, like a stealth assassin. :U Also, in case you didn't see it, I put the Stealth Assassin into the character spreadsheet as an example.

u/Transfuturist [+2] Carthago delenda est.*
"Gender: Rock"??? It's a reference. Also a placeholder. I mean, are you going to tell me that rocks have a gender?
