Upgrade six 1.9.0 -> 1.10.0 in requirements.txt, and futures 3.0.3 ->
3.0.5, requests-futures 0.9.5 -> 0.9.7, and piprot 0.9.1 -> 0.9.6 in
requirements_dev.txt.
There was a comment in requirements.txt warning not to use
python-dateutil 2.4.0, which was necessary when we were using 2.3.x
and 2.4.0 was broken for us, but now we're using 2.4.2 which is fixed,
so the comment is no longer needed.
Upgrade Logbook to 0.12.5. This required changing a usage of
`logbook.NullHandler()` which passed `bubble=True`, since
`NullHandler` no longer supports the `bubble` argument.
Rather than specifying only the package "zipline" in setup.py, use
`find_packages` to find all the subpackages as well, so they (or, most
specifically, their `__init__.py` files) are properly packaged in the
egg file.
Modify setup.py to defer the use of Cython and numpy until
`setup_requires` has already been processed, so that Cython and numpy
are available when they are needed.
As of logbook 0.10.0, logbook no longer installs a default handler,
which means that if the application doesn't install one, log messages
disappear into the ether.
Therefore, all of our scripts with `__main__` endpoints need to push a
`logbook.StderrHandler` if they're not already pushing some other
handler.
In d01e718373, we made a change for
compatibility with a change introduced in pip 7.0.0. Then the pip
maintainers went and reverted the change in pip 7.0.2, thereby
breaking our requirements file for the second time in ten days. This
change reverts the prior change so that we are once again compatible
with the current version of pip.
Also, to make it easier for people to avoid pip compatibility issues,
we're now specifying pip>=7.0.3 in etc/requirements.txt.
The correct thing to look at to figure out where the root of the
zipline tree is, is `zipline.__file__`, not `zipline.__path__`. The
latter could contain multiple directories in it, and is not intended
to be `os.path.join()`ed as the previous code was doing.
Rather than drop files temporarily into the master security lists
directory during unit tests, create temporary directories for the
tests. This avoids issues when the tests are being run at the same
time as other code that uses the real security lists data.
Because we use ordered_pip.sh to install requirements files, we want
dependencies in requirements_dev.txt to be listed _before_ the things
that depend on them, rather than after. Otherwise, with
ordered_pip.sh, stuff will get installed implicitly, and perhaps the
wrong version.
A cython __richcmp__ function isn't allowed to assume that its first
argument is the same as the type of the class to which it belongs, so
our code needs to account for either of its two arguments being of the
wrong type.
Furthermore, the correct way for __richcmp__ to handle when it doesn't
know how to do a comparison is to return NotImplemented.
Python 3 for some reason doesn't like usage of the cmp() built-in, so
instead of using cmp(), just subtract the two ints being compared.
In addition to making this work with Python 3, it should also be more
performant since it no longer requires calling the cmp() method.
The >= comparison for the Cythonized Security object was actually
doing <=. Fix this and add unit tests for all the Security object rich
comparison operators.
Since statsmodels requires patsy, and statsmodels is now in
requirements.txt instead of requirements_dev.txt, patsy also needs to
be in requirements.txt instead of requirements_dev.txt.
For consistency, datetimes returned by the trading calendar should
always show HHMMSS of midnight UTC. Not only is this useful for
consistency, but it also allows us to check if a particular date() is
in an array of these datetimes, because they will hash to the same
thing. For example:
early_closes = get_early_closes()
... later ...
if current_bar_datetime.date() in early_closes:
... today closes early ...
If if the datetimes returned by the trading calendar functions don't
have 00:00:00 for HHMMSS, then the "in" check above will fail because
the date and the datetimes in early_closes won't hash to the same
thing.
The "use_environment" decorator is too side-effectful (e.g.,
connecting to Yahoo! Finance or another data source) to be used as a
decorator to a function that gets evaluated during module load. This
causes problems, e.g., if Zipline is being used in a gevent
environment, when the trading environment created by the decorator
argument tries to use greenlets when gevent hasn't been fully
initialized.
Since the decorator is nothing more than a context-manager wrapper,
this commit removes the decorator and replaces its use with contexts,
i.e., "with" statements.
The check to filter out orders for zero shares wasn't truncated the
number of shares to an integer before checking, so if a fractional
amount less than 1 was being passed in, it wasn't being filtered out
even though it should have been. This is now fixed.
The check() function in zipline.utils.test_utils was only comparing
lists up to the length of the shortest list. This fix uses
izip_longest instead of izip so it compares up to the length of the
longest list, which among other things means that it will now
correctly report when one list is empty and the other is not.
